Server-Side Printing is an option that was introduced in SYSPRO 7. The first thing that you should know is that it is about a lot more than just printing.

Time Savings

Enabling Server-Side Printing offloads all of the report generation work from your personal workstation to the much more powerful server. Reports are faster for that reason alone.

Reduced Network Traffic

Right now your workstation sends the report requirements across the network to the SYSPRO server. The server gathers all of the data you need and sends all that data back to your workstation, where it is finally formed into a report.

With Server-Side Printing, you request a report from the server. The request goes in to a reporting queue, much like the printing queue, and then the server generates and saves the report before sending you the final results in whatever format that you requested.

The savings is even greater where multiple people want the same report. Rather than multiple workstations calling for data and crunching the report, they all just retrieve the same final result from the server.

Fast & Flexible Formats

One of the main benefits of storing the report on the server is that you can access the report in different formats from a variety of devices. This means that your mobile phone can run a new report and retrieve & open it in a PDF format. This is nearly impossible without Server-Side Printing.

Ease of Administration

The SYSPRO install on each personal workstation is much faster as there is no need to have Crystal Reports installed to generate reports. This frees up space, improves performance times for other tasks, and could even extend the useful life of your hardware.

Report Scheduling Whenever You Want

Finally, you can schedule reports on the server so you won’t need to do things like remember to start a big report on your client machine at the end of the day so that it is ready for you by the next morning.
